Four Elements Important to New Life Church

Don’t Google!

Need to know something? Do you need wisdom? Do you need to know what to do? Do you have a question?
Don’t google, pray!
Ask God who gives wisdom liberally! (James 1:5)
Wait long enough in prayer and the Word, praying with the Spirit (1 Corinthians 14:2) till you are quiet on the inside and can hear that “still small voice” of the Spirit within. That is why Jesus sent Him, to teach you ALL things, and guide you into ALL truth. (John 14:26; 16:23)
Learn to listen on the inside. Prayer is as much about listening as it is talking, maybe even more so if you want to be effective.
Suddenly wisdom will rise up from the inside. The knowledge of what God wants you to do will become clear to you. I call it my “knower” when I just know what to do, because the spirit of man is the candle of the Lord. (Proverbs 20:27)
I always get better results with God than I do google, and I’m sure you will too!

Equip, Empower, Encourage

There are three things I see as a Pastor I must do.
Equip – that is arm those I shepherd with the necessary tools, knowledge and revelation they need to serve God successfully and find their place in the Body of Christ.

Empower — To release them and allow them to discover what God has called them to do. This also allows folks to see what works and what doesn’t. That means I desire to allow people the freedom to work and serve within the range of their gifting, desire, and leading. That also means that I must delegate some things to allow people to grow and flourish even failing sometimes. As a pastor I cannot be a micro-manager of peoples lives and callings. I have seen that happen in others but thank God I’ve always had great pastors who have allowed me to grow, saw gifting’s in me and allowed me to discover them and learn to flow in them. If I did miss it they would gently help nudge me back on the road. Equipping people is not enough, they must be released once equipped.

Encourage — as a pastor it is my privilege to encourage people in what God has called them to do. Not only within the confines of Sunday mornings or Wednesday nights, but in their daily lives. I always encourage God’s people to take out the gospel and know they are anointed for EVERYDAY! I always try to do my best to be an example of the believers.

As pastors I believe we need to see the gold in the people God sends our way. We are servants. We are to bring out the treasure that is hidden in that earthly vessel we teach, train and feed. It takes equipping (2 Timothy 3:16-17). It takes empowering and we need to release God’s people into the place of God’s calling. It takes encouraging them that they have what it takes and are “complete in Him” to fulfill God’s calling.

And I will add one more — we need to emulate the example of Christ before them. This is an ongoing progression because whether we like it or not each of us are still in the midst of our own sanctification and still followers also of Jesus Christ. We need to be able to say “Follow me AS I follow Christ.” (1 Cor. 11:1)
